Data scooping technology commonly found in modern cars is finding its way into trim, fast-moving options, creating new opportunities in the sector.

Just as artificial intelligence revolutionizes traffic management systems, public transportation services, and the user interfaces (UIs) between people and their automobiles, manufacturers of electric bikes, e-scooters, and other micromobility systems are actively integrating AI into their products.

According to Comodole Chief Product Officer Alex Gmelin, the transformation of mobility into a digital experience is accelerating. Comodole is leading the way in developing technology that seamlessly integrates micromobility devices with other digital platforms, a transformation largely driven by the integration of AI.

The Electric Scooter Revolution

Part of what’s driving this movement is the increased adoption of electric scooters. Their electric-powered systems allow them to work like mobile computers, retrieving data and sending it to the cloud for computing, just like a modern car.

With safety and anti-theft concerns always on the minds of e-scooter owners, the demand for GPS tracking is skyrocketing. Gmelin reiterated during January 25’s Micromobility World and Riders Choice Awards virtual summit that over 60% of electric scooter riders are clamoring for more smart security features, a clear indication of the market’s needs.

Expect to see more e-scooters connected to user apps — like those commonly found in modern cars. Micromobility software can be augmented and improved faster than in-car software, stressed Micromobility Industries co-founder Horace Dediu.

“That’s a watershed phenomenon in the past few years. This is a giant step in the pace of change,” Dediu added. “We, who are the supporters of micromobility, must be the ones who take these ideas forward because we must go beyond the infrastructure if we must do it. I think we can get it,” he added.

Unveiled at the Las Vegas CES 2024, the Flash Motors Nano Elite stood out as one of the most significant micromobility innovations this year. The Nano Elite electric scooter controller (ESC) is equipped with AI capabilities, enabling semi-autonomous riding. This is a prime example of how AI is revolutionizing the micromobility industry.
