E-scooter 101: Indulging in Long-Distance Scootering

Electric scooters are not recommended for long-distance trips because of their limited range and speed compared to gasoline-powered vehicles. However, this does not mean going on day-long excursions on them is impossible. It just requires a lot of preparation.

Here are the steps to go on a long-distance e-scooter ride.

Plan Ahead

An electric scooter has several disadvantages when it comes to long trips. You need to compensate each one using thorough preparation. Use Google Maps and other navigation apps to create a detailed travel plan for each stop. Note the current range of your e-scooter. This gets lower as you burn through your battery’s charging cycles. Play it safe by setting a recharge point each time you cover enough distance to drain 80% of your battery’s charge. If you are uncertain about the charge lasting, get an external battery or two to serve as backup.

Check the weather forecasts for your destination and the areas you’ll pass through. A high enough Ingress Protection (IP) rating will let you ride through heavy rain without fear of damaging your e-scooter. An IP54 rating should be the minimum.

Note the speed limits of each area to avoid legal trouble. Research if they have additional rules and regulations for electric scooters.

You can summarize all the information on a map, printed or digital.

Item List

Prepare an item kit containing tools and other items to help you get through any situation. We recommend including a poncho, a space blanket, a flashlight, a small candle, matches, an extra pair of gloves, a power bank for your smartphone, a utility knife, and zip ties. You may add a bike tire pump, a radio, extra clothes, a hydration pack, and a minimalist first aid kit.

Food List

Bring enough rations to prepare for unforeseen circumstances that may prevent you from shopping for food on the road. Energy bars can satisfy your calorie needs without taking up much space. You can take a conventional lunch box if you are set to pass a park or any place ideal for outdoor eating. Cover fruits in plastic to prevent juice leakage.

If your e-scooter is not up to the task, consider switching to the Flash Motors Infinity X. It has a max range of 70 miles and a top speed of 75 mph. It is the best hyperscooter for long-distance travel in the market.
