E-scooter Records: Rider Covers 19 Miles on Electric Scooter
Electric scooter technology has advanced so much they are no longer unsuited for long-distance travel.
Commuters often cite the lack of range as the reason for not switching to the sustainable, more convenient electric scooter. They mentioned the incompatibility of the micromobility vehicle with long-distance travel as a dealbreaker.
Though it might have been true in the past, technological advancements have allowed e-scooters to overcome their weakness in mileage. This was proven last year in an event organized by Shenzhen-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer TAILG.
Riding TAILG’s CHITU electric scooter, Qin Haidong of China traveled 19,583.60 miles (31,516.75 kilometers) from June 10 to September 13, 2023. He started in Wuxi, Jiangsu, and ended in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, passing through 181 cities in 21 provinces.
The attempt was certified by Guinness World Records, awarding Haidong the title for the “longest journey on an electric scooter”. It was a watershed moment for compact, lightweight, micromobility solutions, pushing the boundaries of e-scooters.
The TAILG CHITU uses a 60V/23Ah lead-acid battery and a 1,200W motor. The 103 kg vehicle boasts a max range of 46.60 miles (75 kilometers) and a top speed of 31.69 miles (51 kilometers) per hour.
Accelerating Electric Scooter R&D
The world experienced unprecedented erratic weather last year, with numerous places setting new records for highest and lowest temperatures. As a result, calls for a reduced carbon footprint to mitigate climate change were louder than ever.
Governments responded by supporting various eco-friendly alternatives, especially in the transport sector. The electric scooter industry is one of the greatest beneficiaries of the shift to sustainable urban mobility.
Thus, manufacturers increased their investments in e-scooter research and development (R&D). Several brands debuted their new electric scooters at the Las Vegas CES 2024.
Infinity X from Cyprus startup Flash Motors stood out with specs never seen before in the industry. Brand ambassador Charalampos “The Ferocious” Grigoriou, the UFC’s only Cypriot MMA fighter, led the presentation.
The premium hyperscooter utilizes a 72V/29.40Ah Samsung lithium-ion battery and a 1,500W motor. Weighing only 46 kg, it can traverse 70 miles (110 kilometers) on a single charge and accelerate to 75 miles (120 kilometers) per hour.
