Maintaining an electric scooter is much easier than other vehicles because of its simple structure and fewer moving parts. Moreover, it only requires a few tools you might already have in your toolbox.

Below are the top five ways to maximize the longevity of your e-scooter.

E-scooter Cleaning

Never clean your electric scooter with a hose. It is not waterproof, only water-resistant. Hose water may penetrate inside and damage its electrical components. Instead, spray it with an all-purpose cleaner and wipe it with a damp rag. Cleaning your micromobility vehicle once a week is often enough to prevent dirt buildup. However, clean it immediately after riding through mud or a deep puddle.

E-scooter Lubrication

Lubricate your electric scooter’s moving parts to reduce friction and wear and tear. It will help minimize noise and vibration while preventing overheating by blocking the absorption of friction-generated heat. We recommend using a PTFE lubricant, which also provides rust protection. Lubricate once a month if you use your personal electric vehicle (PEV) daily. Otherwise, once every three months would suffice.

Tire Checking

If your electric scooter uses pneumatic air tires, ensure the air pressure is at the manufacturer-recommended level. Too much air pressure will accelerate wear and turn and increase the risk of bursting. On the other hand, too little air pressure will lower a tire’s ability to gain traction, compromising speed. The Flash Motors Infinity X premium hyperscooter uses tubeless, non-flat-liner tires that are puncture-proof and require minimal air pressure.

Brake Inspection

Riding an electric scooter wears out its brake pads, causing them to lose their effectiveness as friction material and weakening the PEV’s braking power. Top-quality brake pads can remain effective for 60,000 miles.

Battery Care

The battery is an electric scooter’s most expensive component. Hence, extending its longevity is the best way to get more value from a PEV. Overcharging significantly reduces the useful life of an EV battery. Fortunately, newer e-scooter models have a Battery Management System (BMS) that automatically cuts the connection to the charger once the battery is fully charged. Also, do not let the battery run dry. A battery’s degradation accelerates when it discharges while empty. Lastly, avoid using a fast charger since its high electric influx may damage the battery.
